The race for the governorship of Alagoas is effectively deadlocked, according to a Quaest poll published on Monday, with former governor Renan Filho and the mayor of Maceió, JHC, separated by just two percentage points — a gap that falls squarely within the survey's margin of error.
A statistical tie across both rounds
In the stimulated first-round scenario, Renan Filho of the MDB records 42 per cent of voting intentions against 40 per cent for JHC of the PSDB. With a declared margin of error of three percentage points, the two candidates are considered technically level. The poll indicates the same deadlock persists across both rounds of the contest, though granular second-round figures were not included in the available material.
Among the remaining candidates, Lenilda Luna of the UP registers one per cent support, while Márcio Jambo of the Democrata party failed to score. Seven per cent of respondents said they would vote blank or null, or do not intend to vote at all, and ten per cent remain undecided.
Undecided voters hold the balance
That ten per cent of undecided electors represents a bloc substantial enough to determine the outcome in either direction, leaving the race genuinely open ahead of the 2026 elections. A similarly fluid picture has emerged in Paraná, where polling also shows no clear front-runner in the governor's contest. With both leading candidates statistically inseparable at this stage, the mobilisation of undecided voters is likely to prove the decisive factor in Alagoas.
