A forest fire that broke out at midday near Villalcampo, a village of approximately 380 inhabitants in the Spanish province of Zamora, has been partially brought under control after firefighters succeeded in perimetering the blaze. Authorities subsequently reduced the fire's official severity index from two to one and lifted a lockdown that had been imposed on the neighbouring settlement of Ricobayo de Alba, home to around 140 residents.

Lockdown lifted and main road restored

The confinement of Ricobayo de Alba's residents has ended, according to sources from the emergency response operative and Spain's Dirección General de Tráfico. The N-122 national road — a principal artery running east to west across Zamora province and providing a direct link to Portugal — has been declared open to traffic. The fire broke out in the environs of the Arribes del Duero natural park, a protected area on the Spanish-Portuguese border. Spain has faced a series of wildfire emergencies this summer, including a separate blaze near Segorbe that scorched more than 630 hectares before being stabilised.

ZA-324 road remains closed

Despite the improvement in conditions, the ZA-324 provincial road remains closed. Firefighters have established a perimeter around the blaze, though the source material does not indicate the fire has been fully extinguished. The situation is therefore still developing, and the downgrade in severity index reflects an improvement rather than a resolution.
