Around 20 people were freed from a stranded chain carousel at the Hamburger Dom fairground in Hamburg on Wednesday morning, after the ride left its passengers suspended approximately 30 metres above the ground for more than three hours.

Anxious wait at height

Those aboard the carousel endured what was described as a frightening ordeal as the ride came to a halt high above the fairground. Initial accounts characterised the mood among passengers as one of panic during the lengthy wait.

All passengers brought safely down

After more than three hours, all approximately 20 passengers were successfully freed and returned to ground level. The cause of the malfunction was not confirmed in early reports, and no details regarding injuries were provided.
