Ronaldo Breaks Al Nassr Goals Record
- Ronaldo's 104th Al Nassr league goal in 110 appearances makes him the club's all-time top scorer, overtaking Mohammed Al-Sahlawi's record of 103.
- The deflected winner against Al Tawoon gave Al Nassr a 2–1 victory and a perfect four-wins-from-four start to the Saudi Pro League season.
- Ronaldo, now on 978 career goals, told Vogue that the current season is "probably" his last in professional football.
Cristiano Ronaldo has become Al Nassr's all-time leading scorer in the Saudi Pro League, surpassing Mohammed Al-Sahlawi's record of 103 goals after netting his 104th for the club — a decisive deflection that sealed a 2–1 victory over Al Tawoon and maintained Al Nassr's perfect start to the season.
The record-breaking moment
Ronaldo, 41, played the full ninety minutes on Friday. Al Tawoon took an early lead through Bassam Al Hurayji in the eleventh minute, but Ronaldo's Portuguese compatriot Samú Costa levelled matters in first-half stoppage time. Six minutes into the second half, a shot from Mohamed Simakan deflected off Ronaldo and beyond the goalkeeper to make it 2–1 — the winner that secured Al Nassr's fourth consecutive victory and kept them at the top of the table.
The goal was Ronaldo's 104th league strike for the club across 110 appearances since he joined in 2023. Al-Sahlawi, now 39, had previously held the record with 103 goals.
Closing in on 1,000 career goals
The milestone feeds into a wider objective Ronaldo has spoken about publicly. He currently stands at 978 career goals in total. At the Globe Soccer Awards last December, he stated that reaching the 1,000-goal mark was his principal ambition. The record against Al Tawoon brings him 22 strikes away from that figure.
Ronaldo has been sporting newly dyed blonde hair since shortly after his marriage to Georgina Rodríguez on 11 August — a change from his customary dark tone to what has been described as honey blonde.
Ronaldo hints at retirement
In a recent interview with Vogue, Ronaldo suggested that the current campaign may be his last. "This is probably my last year in football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy," he said. He added that he had already mapped out his post-football life: "I have my future very clearly planned. I have so many things that keep me busy it is hard to name just one. Since football might leave a big gap, you have to fill your time in many different ways — more fun, more travel, watching and playing padel, which I really enjoy, and continuing to savour what I have earned. Because after all, it has been twenty-five years with many sacrifices." Whether that retirement intention will hold remains to be seen; the summer has already brought significant personal milestones for the forward, and his form on the pitch shows no sign of abating.
