Harry Kane has signalled cautious optimism over a contract extension at Bayern Munich, confirming that initial talks have begun while warning that an agreement is unlikely to arrive quickly, with the duration of any new deal understood to be the principal sticking point.
Speaking after Bayern's 5-1 Bundesliga opening win over VfB Stuttgart — a match in which the 33-year-old unusually failed to score — Kane confirmed that a first meeting had taken place during the preceding week. "The first meeting was this week," he said. "But these things don't sort themselves out in one or two weeks. There will be many more conversations about details." Despite declining to be drawn on specifics, he allowed himself a measure of optimism: "The talks are positive — so far, so good. In the next few weeks we'll continue talking and then we'll see what happens." When pressed, he added: "It looks pretty good."
A big contract at a pivotal moment
Kane framed the negotiations in explicitly personal terms, acknowledging the weight of what could be among the most consequential deals of his career. "I'm 33 years old — this may not be my last contract, but it's a big one for me," he said. "I need to make sure I'm happy, and the club needs to make sure it's happy too. "I'd like to extend long-term," he said. "How many years it will be, we'll see."

The length of any new contract is reported to be the central point of contention, with discussions understood to be focused on either two or three additional years beyond Kane's current deal, which expires in 2027.
