Rockstar Responds to GTA VI Leaks

Rockstar Games has broken its silence over a sustained wave of Grand Theft Auto VI footage leaks, describing the episode as "heartbreaking" and apologising to fans for the manner in which material from the game has entered the public domain.
The studio's statement
In a message published on social media, Rockstar said: "It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time." The studio also issued a broader apology for the length of time the project has taken, acknowledging delays in sharing details and official footage with the community. "We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has — from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay," it added.
The source of the leaks
Footage appearing to originate from a playable build of the game has been repeatedly circulated in recent days. A person or organisation operating under the name "CyberLeek" has claimed responsibility for the leaks, which have also been used, at least in part, to promote a cryptocurrency. The identity of CyberLeek remains unconfirmed. Publisher Take-Two Interactive has sought court permission to subpoena both Microsoft and Discord in an effort to identify whoever is behind the ongoing leak of copyright-infringing content; those subpoena requests are, as yet, unresolved.
What comes next
Rockstar's statement arrives on the eve of an "extended look" at the game, which is set to stream exclusively on Netflix. The studio expressed hope that spoilers would not deter players from experiencing the title on its own terms. The Netflix showcase represents the studio's first opportunity to reassert control of the game's public narrative following the leak episode. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on 19th November. With Take-Two's legal action now under way and a major official reveal imminent, the question of who orchestrated the leaks — and to what end — remains open.
