Polar air grips the Centre-South

The final week of August opened with markedly low temperatures across southern Brazil as a new cold front moved along the coast of the South and Southeast regions. The advance of a polar air mass of Antarctic origin brought a pronounced chill to the Centre-South, with temperatures falling sharply from Friday 21 August. The cold air was described as arriving with considerable intensity across the affected states.

Warming expected from Wednesday 26 August

The meteorological pattern is forecast to shift decisively from Wednesday 26 August, according to Climatempo. Accelerated warming is expected to take hold across the centre-north and western São Paulo, the west of Minas Gerais, and much of the Centro-Oeste region. The forecaster indicates that a new heatwave could ultimately affect areas in all five Brazilian regions, with inland areas facing the most significant temperature rises.
