Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, has sought to draw a line under the protracted controversy surrounding the purchase of a luxury penthouse in the city's Chamberí district by deploying a pointed colloquial dismissal. "The apartment is for sale, so cheerio — that's that," she said, suggesting the property's imminent return to the market should be sufficient to end the debate.
A purchase that has defied explanation
The row centres on the acquisition of the upscale property by a publicly owned company belonging to the Community of Madrid at a cost of more than six million euros. Weeks after the purchase came to light, the intended use of the penthouse has still not been explained by Ayuso's administration. Feijóo unconvinced
