Suspect Arrested in São Paulo Over Killing of Former Deputy Mayor's Son in Bahia

A 28-year-old man suspected of shooting dead the son of a former deputy mayor of Xique-Xique was arrested on Monday in the Sacomã neighbourhood of São Paulo, more than a year after the killing in western Bahia. The arrest was made during the first edition of Operação Projeto Capturas, a federal initiative run by Brazil's Ministry of Justice and Public Security designed to intensify the tracking and execution of outstanding judicial arrest warrants.

The victim, identified by G1 Globo as Eliecy Pereira Tarrão Júnior, 45, was shot in front of a commercial premises in Xique-Xique in July 2025. According to the investigation, the suspect descended from a vehicle, opened fire, and immediately fled the scene. Tarrão Júnior was the son of Eliecy Felix Tarrão, who served as deputy mayor of Xique-Xique across two terms: 2017–2020 under what was then the PMDB, now the Movimento Democrático Brasileiro (MDB), and 2021–2024 under the Democratas (DEM), which subsequently merged with the Partido Social Liberal (PSL) to form the current União Brasil.

The arrest resulted from an exchange of intelligence between the Civil Police forces of Bahia and São Paulo. Officers from the São Paulo force executed an arrest warrant issued by the Bahian courts. The suspect was taken through judicial processing and remains in custody at the disposal of the justice system.
