Four adults have been charged with murder after a newborn baby girl was found stabbed to death at a property on Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area of Sheffield on Sunday morning. South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to the address following reports of concern for the baby's safety.
The four charged are Peter Horvath, 19, of Holywell Heights, Sheffield; Andrea Skopova, 20, formerly of Robey Street, Sheffield; Nina Horvathova, 37, of Holywell Heights, Sheffield; and Peter Horvath, 38, also of Holywell Heights, Sheffield. In addition to the murder charge, all four face counts of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice, the latter specifically relating to allegations that they took steps to conceal the killing of an infant.
A 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has also been charged with perverting the course of justice in connection with the same case. Police confirmed that all five individuals have been remanded in custody and were due to appear before Sheffield Magistrates' Court. Two further women, aged 26 and 37, who were arrested on suspicion of murder, remain on bail while inquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward described the development as "a significant step" in the investigation. "I would like to thank our communities, who I know will have been deeply impacted by this traumatic incident, for supporting us as we work through this intricate investigation," he said, adding that police would continue to carry out inquiries in and around the Holywell Heights area.
DCI Woodward urged the public to refrain from speculating or posting information about the case online, stating that "protecting the integrity of the criminal justice process is crucial to us securing justice for this little girl."
