Chelsea, whose contract with Guiu runs until 2029, are reportedly set to retain a financial interest in any sale.
Long-standing interest finally bearing fruit
The potential signing carries particular significance given Leipzig's history with the player. According to reports, the club were in advanced discussions with Guiu as far back as 2024, only for the forward to opt for a move from Barcelona to Chelsea instead. Contact between the parties is said never to have fully lapsed, with Guiu's name briefly resurfacing in internal discussions at Leipzig last year. Napoli were also reported to have shown interest in the player in recent months.
Guiu's profile — young, quick, physically imposing, and effective in a high-pressing system — is described as an ideal fit for Leipzig's playing style. The club's sporting director Marcel Schäfer, 42, is known for conducting business quietly before confirming deals, and this transfer appears consistent with that approach.
Leipzig recently strengthened their attacking options with the loan signing of Christopher Nkunku from Milan. Nkunku, a versatile forward capable of playing as a central striker, returned to the club on a one-year loan arrangement.
Harder expected to depart to make room
Any further addition in attack is likely to be conditional on at least one departure from Leipzig's forward line. Danish striker Conrad Harder, 21, remains the club's primary candidate for sale. Spanish media have now reported that Sevilla have entered the picture for Harder as they seek attacking reinforcements before the window closes. He had previously been linked with Lazio and Galatasaray. Harder's market value is currently listed at €17 million on Transfermarkt. Leipzig are said to prefer a permanent transfer over a short-term loan for the player.
Should the Guiu deal be confirmed, it would represent a significant piece of business for Schäfer — completing an acquisition the club came close to securing two years ago, while simultaneously managing an outgoing that has attracted broad European interest.
